Osteopathy at Mend

Subtle, yet precise Osteopathic techniques applied to the body’s framework correctively addresses structural dysfunction.

What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a structural science of our body’s ability to move and the anatomical relationships within.

Our biomechanical assessment of movement is a functional diagnosis of how the body has adapted and compensated for injuries and strain over time. Corrective adjustment creates an environment where the body can heal itself. Osteopathic treatment unwinds tensional strain, removes obstruction of fluid flow and replenishes tissue health. There is a strong emphasis on preventative health where we can create balance, restore function and establish wellness within.

Our Treatments

Osteopathic treatment is a hands-on manual therapy treatment composed of tissue manipulations and joint adjustments. Technical approaches are subtle yet specific and always within the tolerance of the individual receiving them.

We use various techniques including myofascial release, joint adjustment, visceral manipulations and cranial sacral therapy.  Osteopaths assess and treat inclusively; working with the body as a whole rather than its individual parts. Compensation patterns are addressed, postural strains are softened and alignment is restored with an appropriate application of the anatomy examined. Treatments balance the nervous system by reducing stimulation for full-body wellness.

Paediatric Treatments

Paediatric osteopathy involves an assessment of your child’s movement, mobility and global overall functioning.

In order for babies to grow and develop optimally their tissues need to be free from restriction. Their tissues require a healthy blood supply and optimal nerve firing to balance the nervous system. The soft tissue technical approach to infant manual therapy is gentle, subtle and always within the comfort of your child’s tolerances.

How we can help

Even from infancy, the body has the ability to regulate and heal itself if it is free from obstruction. Often physical restriction goes unnoticed by conventional medical models and often leads to symptoms being compensated for and prolongs the healing process.

Common reasons to bring your infant in for osteopathic care include:

  • Neck tension/flat spot on head
  • Reflux, spit up or symptoms associated silent reflux (sinus congestion)
  • Fussy/difficult to soothe baby
  • Inability to latch comfortably at breast or bottle, ineffective emptying of breast or bottle, or painful/weak/superficial latch
  • Delayed at reaching motor milestones
  • Unwillingness and protest in certain positions (tummy time)
  • Early rolling
  • Digestive and elimination issues

Treating infants requires a delicate and experienced palpatory handling. Mallory has been working with pediatrics in bodywork therapy for over 10 years and brings a seasoned approach to holistic healing. We take great ownership in providing your child with competent care with the most up to date research regarding your child’s well being.
